Mod Monday- Vidal Sassoon on the watch list

I spotted the trailer for this movie over HERE. They did a pretty awesome synopsis and made me want to get a super mod haircut via Vidal Sasson.
Have you seen the movie? Did you like it?

Mod Monday- Moonrise Kingdom

B and I went on a dinner and movie date Friday and saw Moonrise Kingdom. I loved it. Wes Anderson is one of my favorites (my freshman college roomie and I used to fall asleep to The Royal Tennenbaums 60% of the time). The whole movie was muted in that fantastical 60's era coloration. Anderson's Mise-en-scène is pretty brilliant, you could pause the movie at any given point and you would have a hang-able work of art. We noticed many of the scenes were very symmetrical, but I think that is just Anderson's style.
Alternative Movie poster snagged from HERE
I like to think that Suzy and Sam were what Ben and I were when we were little. Suzy with her books and records, and Sam with his mad outdoor skillz. I could just see little Ben on his canoe navigating through the woods. I am seeing a very potential Halloween costume in the works and Lox Papers has put together the perfect board so I can shop for Suzy. Anyone know where to get a Khaki Scout uniform for Ben?

Its a perfect movie to get you in the summer mood. I highly recommend this film. I will definitely see it again.

Mod Monday- Marilyn on the movie Que

Have you been watching SMASH on NBC? Well I have! And I am really looking forward to tonight's episode where it all comes to a culmination. Karen or Ivy? In the meantime, to educate myself on the Bombshell,  my Netflix Que has started to collect many a Marilyn movies. Which one is your favorite?

Grey Gardens Party/movie Screening at Texas Theatre this weekend!

I really wish I were in Dallas this weekend so that I could go to this PARTY!! I have seen both Grey Gardens documentaries and the Broadway Musical. Needless to say, I find these ladies fascinating. But, since I can't go, you should don your finest nightgown as a hat and head over to the Texas Theatre on Saturday and enjoy the party for me. PLUS, they are having a themed dance party after!! Send me photos, cause I am super jealous and want to live vicariously through you!!

Fish, Eat, Shoot, Eat, Fashion, Fashion, Muppets [in that order]

The Thanksgiving holiday was restful, busy, inspirational and awesome. We went out to have our first Thanksgiving with Ben's family. That consisted of B catching a giant bass, me shooting (apparently I am a natural per Ben's Dad), and eating ALOT. We ended the night watching Bill Cunningham New York (after I saw Hilary's post on it... thanks for the suggestion!).
Then onto Friday where we had our second Thanksgiving at Joslyn's (we have a TON to be Thankful for).
Saturday morning B took me to see the Gaultier exhibit at the DMA which was pretty amazing. If you make it to Dallas, this is a must see!!
A quick bite at the Nammi Truck and then we went to see the Muppets!!
I have been singing Manah Manah for dayssssss. The Muppets were so good. And isn't that Eric Slager Muppet (at top) interpretation rad? You can buy it here.

Happy Friday! and why my boyfriend ROCKS!!

Ben surprised me with this super rockin' wooden necklace last night. Just for fun. :) He got it from Tinkering Monkey, which is a pretty neat site itself. A DIY duo is always A-OK on my list. Their blog  gives some great DIY inspiration.

And while I am on the subject of Ben... he finished his Capstone video/documentary project and graduates with is Masters in Emerging Media next week!! check out his video:

Black Swan

photo from Fox Searchlight
RUN... do not walk, to see this movie if you haven't already. We saw it Friday night and besides the fact that it was very disturbing (plot wise) it was beautifully shot, edited and directed. I feel like I need to see it 2-3 more times to really grasp all the subtle nuances that Darren Aronofsky put into it.
Ben and I had a conversation after the movie about how they had a pretty big budget but the entire thing was shot seemingly amateur and shaky with many shots directly behind Nina's (Natalie Portman) head so you are seeing it through her "eyes". I have been thinking about this movie all weekend and how brilliant it was.
not to mention the costumes, and special effects towards the end. :)
so... GO... see it!!

Alice

image via Atlantis Home

I saw Alice in Wonderland friday night. It was fantastic, and although the story line was bits and pieces from Alice's adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass and Jabborwocky it took on a whole new plot line. Definitely go see it for the Tim Burton fantasticness and drama and mis en scene. however, my advice is to not waste your time on the 3d action. It would have been just as good without it and save a headache from wearing those stupid glasses.

a photo

photo via Style me Pretty... by way of Studio MSV

It is no surprise that 40's glam is in. Times are tough and the lipstick rule is in full effect.
Elle even gave a list of shades of red to be hot this fall.

There is a photo of my grandmother in her house that I love more than anything in the world. If I remember correctly she was about 18 when she had the photo done and she is honestly the most stunning beautiful woman I have ever seen. I wish I had a copy of that photo.
Blake Lively on cover of Vogue

The one thing that I love about the photo is that it encompasses 40's glam in the most perfect way. It is in black and white but you can tell by her perfectly coiffed hair that she has to be wearing the brightest most killer red lipstick.
The costumes from Grey Gardens (the remake) when Little Edie is young are pretty great too. I love the style, the hair, everything. If I weren't so awful at hair and makeup I would do this look everyday.

Gatsby

The Great Gatsby. This is one of my top 5 favorite books... period. There have been a number of occasions where I have sat down and read that book cover to cover. Sunday Ben and I fittingly escaped the summer heat and watched Francis Ford Coppola's rendition of The Great Gatsby with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. Not only did it make me long for a mint julep (anyone have a good recipe?) but I wanted to bust out the feathers and flapper dress and learn the Charleston.
I have a pretty rockin feather headband I got in Chicago, but I could always use more. Here are a few cool "flapper" inspired things I found on etsy:feather headband
Flapper print
vintage brass fringe necklace
