It's in the details- Texas Style Council Recap #1

This being my first blogger conference, I assumed there would be some well dressed ladies, but good God, I was like a kid in a candy shop of inspiration!! I really appreciate the girls that matched their outfits to their cards... Molly's nails matched perfect! It helped me remember.

All weekend long, it seemed like I was zoning in on the details of peoples outfits. And man there was a PLETHORA of goodness. Hilary and I were good partners in crime all weekend. We figured out she was good at taking in how a person would put something together overall and I would zoom in on a  fabulous jewel or detail of a garment.
Joanne rocks a very monochromatic scheme with a pop of blue; and Metsy had a blingin' fun red necklace.
I also realized that once I got home and was going through my photos that I really need to be a better journalist and A- write down who is wearing what (its hard to remember who someone is by their hands). B- note where they got it from so I can share with you guys. DUH, seems like blogger 101 right? Clearly I get all distracted by pretty and sparkly things--insert blonde joke here--
Rocquelle had some serious hairdos and that pearl necklace rocks; Jesse's feather plume fascinator is right up my alley; OMG who's rock ring is that?!oh, it is Haley's ring!; Joanna's lace top and fun belt totally pulled her LBD together; Merl, you have some mad necklace skillz. I want that.

So here are a few of my faves that I could actually identify... well except for that bad ass ring. who does that belong to?! I LOVE it. It is Haley's ring! Thanks for identifying that Metsy.
Sarah had the most amazing Twiggy lashes

Anne was sketching away, I am so in awe. She posted a few of her sketches so you should check those out!

Modern day Polaroid... Instaprint

If you are as addicted to Instagram as I am... YOU WILL LOVE THIS. Kickstarter just put up a new product called the Instaprint, you can go check it out on their page for all the info. But in a nutshell, it is a modern day polaroid in which you snap a photo with your Instagram app, set a # for your Instaprint machine and anytime anyone on Instagram uses that hashtag... IT PRINTS TO YOUR MACHINE. What the what?! so flipping cool.

On their site right now, you can tag an existing Instagram photo with #instaprint and you can watch your photo print live. That's my photo!
Of course I thought this would be the perfect thing for Ben and I's wedding, so I went ahead and backed the project. You should too. Let's make it happen.

A company I can get down with: Stray Dog

A friend recently introduced me to this awesome company called Stray Dog. Their company philosophy is pretty great and I LOVE all the papier mache objets that you can change the colors on. Ferdinand in that blue is on the top of my list but I love the others as well!!!

Happy Friday! and why my boyfriend ROCKS!!

Ben surprised me with this super rockin' wooden necklace last night. Just for fun. :) He got it from Tinkering Monkey, which is a pretty neat site itself. A DIY duo is always A-OK on my list. Their blog  gives some great DIY inspiration.

And while I am on the subject of Ben... he finished his Capstone video/documentary project and graduates with is Masters in Emerging Media next week!! check out his video:

Love my 2 new pieces of Art!!

I bought some art last weekend that just got hung. I picked up the little Marfa watertower painting at the White Rock Local Market. It is by S H E D P R I N T S T U D I O.  Then after our Thrift adventure wrapped up, Callie, Sandra and I went by the Belmont to Check out The Suite Art Fair. There were some pretty AWESOME things there. I walked away with a "Let the Sunshine in" print from We Are 1976.
That print, may or may not have spawned the inspiration for the yellow door. Just sayin...

How's this for a map in our Library?

Or the Library is the map. I have been looking for a non-cheesy map for our office space. This one from LIBRISSIME is custom, but would fit the ticket! Spotted in Interiors magazine. It is pretty kick-ass! want.

3. Current obsession over Euphorbia cacti spotted in Northpark AND Bows & Arrows

Photo Booth

Calame Wedding Photo Booth from Jenna on Vimeo.

I am Loving this photobooth idea via Style Me Pretty. It would be really fun to set up in a back yard for cookouts, parties, etc. Now I have to find some really groovy frames.  The rest of the photos from this Texas chic wedding are pretty cute too.

Killer light fixture

Aside from this killer light fixture, this is a pretty awesome issue of Interior Design. But back to the light fixture... I am scheming a way to make it for over our dining room table. A little DIY... if you will. But a rectangular version. Let me know if you have any bright ideas!

Mod Monday- Thrifty finds

A couple lamps @ White Elephant and isn't that giant globe awesome?
This weekend I went on a little scavenger hunt through the antique and thrift stores in Dallas. Joslyn, Sandra, Audrey and I headed out, not with a mission but just to see what was out there. We went to LHO, Lula B's West and The White Elephant, then got down and dirty at the Casa View Thrift and Value World Thrift in my Neighborhood.

Dresser on left from Lula B's; Dressers on right @LHO (both really great deals so you should buy them cause I have no place for them!)

fun glasses at Lula B's

Fruteria in Casa View shopping center
We even checked out the new Fruteria, which I am extremely excited about because of the quality of fruit and the price! Can't wait to try the Horchata.

my finds
I found a lot that I wanted...  but only purchased 2 things: a Neiman's Christmas Catalog from 1973 (with an Illustration from Bjorn Wiinblad) and a bench that needs a little love (from Value World for $25!!!). Gotta save for that Fence!

If you want to do a little online shopping... check out these two sites for MCM stuff:
MCMF (found via SFGirlbybay)
ModernHaus (Summer finds pretty amazing stuff... especially these lamps)

Mod Monday- a little more christmas

Over on SFGirlbyBay today, erin dudley has posted some pretty awesome mid-century modern holiday decor. I especially love this Alexander Girard Nativity set. And whilst on the topic of Alexander Girard, if you are still looking for some uber stylish and iconic gifts for the kiddos (or anyone really) the Blocks and Puzzle are fun too. From House Industries.

TweedRide Dallas & (decorate yo head!)

This weekend was a fabulous mix of friends, food and tweed and HATS! In preparation for the Tweed ride Dallas, we had a little hat show Saturday night. See Below. I busted out all of my Grandmother's and aunts vintage hats for a fun fashion show.

The real costume party came Sunday, for the actual Tweed ride. And if you haven't witnessed this or heard about it before... I have to tell you it is is some awesome vintage madness!

There had to have been close to 300 people participating starting at the Grassy Knoll (naturally) and ending up at the Turner House in Oak Cliff for some fun lawn games. These photos are a mix of mine and Danny's but you can see more on Flickr here and Here.

Avenging Skittles Queen

My clever, creative, fun friend Gricelda made this cartoon/collage the other day. It was so brilliant I had to share. It is starring some of my work friends (Sergio, Stephanie, Kristen, Gricelda, Seth and myself). I needed a good idea for Halloween and the Avenging Skittles queen just may be it.

Audrey the designer

Ben and I are watching Audrey and Millie Friday night so we went to get the low down from Jos last night.
While we were there, Audrey made me a couture clutch out of tin foil and japenese masking tape. I have to say it's pretty chic and I can't wait to rock it out on the town this weekend!
Audrey is one talented lil chica!!

Josef

photo via apartment therapy

I have a secret... I have a crush on another man... I mean does it count if he isn't alive anymore? Josef Frank was an infinitely interesting man and from scandinavia so he automatically has the clean aesthetic that I crave. But other than that, his textiles, wall paper and architecture is amazing. Organic, colorful, modern and fun... what more could you want?!

SO... I am getting a lovely Duncan Phyfe style sofa from my Grandmother... similar to the one above... and the first thing I thought of to recover it in was a big bold Josef Frank fabric (although my grandmother would surely die and not let me have the sofa if she knew my plans).
I am on the hunt to find the perfect fabric.
I found this Ikea knock-off for a super great price, but a)I am worried it wont hold up and b)I feel like it is simply doing an injustice to the original.
what to do?
